Mojo taken a holiday? Did you ever even have one? Do you even know what it is?
If you’ve been living your life in black and white lately, it’s time to get back into the world of technicolor! Find out where that elusive “essence of you” has been hiding out and learn to keep better tabs on it. As a home business owner and entrepreneur, you’re gonna need it!
According to Urban Dictionary, (I know, the quintessential online source of all things accurate, right?) mojo originally means a charm or spell. These days, it’s taken on a broad range of meanings. It’s most commonly used when referring to sex appeal, your cool factor, your essence. Among the entertainment world, it’s known as the “it” factor; that thing you can’t quite put your finger on, but you know when someone’s got it.
Suffice it to say, if you’re in current possession of said mojo, it means you’ve got a zip in your step, a bounce in your stride, a sparkle in your eye. You’ve got swagga’! The French call it joie de vivre (joy of living). If, on the other hand, you’ve lost your mojo… people may find you, well, boring; not-even-remotely worth circling the wagons for. It might be time to fire up the Mojo-GPS!
First, take a good look at yourself. Are you the kind of person YOU would want to be around or do business with? Think of someone that you personally respect and admire. How do you “feel” when you’re around this person? How do you “feel” when s/he communicates? Do you feel welcomed? Does s/he make you feel like you have some things in common?
What qualities does this person have that you admire? Is s/he friendly? Engaging? Articulate? Knowledgeable? Resourceful? Humble? Helpful? A good listener? Does a crowd form around this person at social functions? These are all qualities that attract people like magnets, and qualities you should incorporate into your repertoire.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying you should try to emulate the electric energy of Tony Robbins. Maybe aim for more of an understated energy, an aura of authenticity that emanates from you and communicates your self-confidence, without looking like you just graduated from Ron Burgundy Charm School.
It’s about knowing who you are and owning it 100% of the time. Be yourself, but understand that everyone can and should work on their personal development to make sure you’re presenting the best version of YOU to the people in your sphere of influence and to your business prospects. Remember: People want to do business with people they know, like and trust.
Revisit and re-evaluate your WHY – Remind yourself of the truth, the core reasons behind why you’re doing what you’re doing. If you don’t have it written down somewhere to review, what were you thinking? (kidding!)
Reconnect with other passions – Sometimes exploring other passions in your life is enough to help you reconnect with the feeling, that fire that you’ve lost touch with. It can literally spark a new angle related to your original WHY.
Read about other successful people – reading inspirational stories of other successful entrepreneurs can get you back to those same core feelings you used to have.
Take a snapshot of your work environment – Examine your workspace. Is it uninspiring or does it stifle your creativity? Are there unnecessary distractions that keep you off your game? Clean it up and make changes that inspire you!
Develop and display your mission statement – similar to your why, your mission statement is your proclamation, your purpose of existence, but if you don’t have it prominently displayed in front of you as a constant daily reminder, it’s easy for that guiding light to lose it’s shine. Spend a few bucks and have it framed and proudly perched in plain view above your workspace.
What are some things you do to inject some energy into your business mojo?
