Have you ever gotten that "icky" feeling when you read certain, ahem, so-called ‘guru’ marketing letters, or when you attend their live webinar events, or visit their websites?
I’ll bet you know exactly what I’m talking about - Dubious Dan, Guru Greg, Pretentious Pete, Save-the-World Sam... They’re uber-successful 7 figure marketers sporting the lifestyle.
They’ll show a photo of themselves perched atop a boat - mojito in hand- with a “way-beyond-5-o’clock-shadow” perfectly framing their gleaming smile, or a YouTube clip of them hiking a steep mountain in a far-away rainforest. Yeah, you know who I’m talking about.
Even if you don’t physically see them, you “see” them. You read their words or hear their voices and you conjure an image in your mind. This is by design...they can paint a self-portrait like Picasso with artful copywriting skills that belie their youth.
Now, I’m not disparaging their success, or their wealth, their youthful looks or even their desire. I love the sun, surf and sand as much as anyone. But what in the world could these young uber-successful marketers possibly have in common with me? I mean really...who identifies with this?
Well the truth is, SOME body does. Somebody identifies with what they have to offer, and in their defense, these “young guns” are just putting their message out there knowing it WILL attract a certain type of customer...just not me, and maybe not you. So shake off the willies, you can actually learn something from them!
Are they concerned about that? Nope. Should they be? Do they know something the rest of us don’t? Maybe. They’re simply committed to using attraction marketing principles, and they KNOW it works. The system will sift and sort out the people that do not identify either with them, or their message. They will naturally attract the people who are ready to hear their message and who DO resonate with what they’re offering.
These savvy young marketers know exactly who they’re marketing to and they know how to strike a nerve or tap into some sort of dissatisfaction in that person’s life, that will trigger them to take action. Essentially they put out the bait and catch some hungry fish.
The result? They have a vastly more qualified lead than if they had plucked someone out of the phone book or just met them on the street. And they’d be eons ahead of the typical network marketer who is encouraged by their “well-meaning” company to approach friends and family.
(Maybe you know what I mean?)
So, what can you learn from these young bucks? The real question is, are you open to learning a new trick?
How can you use this same method to attract your own ideal customer who will resonate with your message and your offer?
Take a page out of the Young Buck Guru Marketer’s playbook. Learn attraction marketing. Research and identify who is ALREADY in need or currently searching for your type of service or product.
(and please... have a clue...it isn’t everybody!)
So...what does she (or he) look like? Where does she hang out online? Who does she associate with as a consumer? What brands does she currently identify with? What similar products or services has she shown interest in? What social circles does she travel in? Who does she “like” on Facebook? Follow on Twitter? What “pinterests” her? What types of people does she tend to get LinkedIn with?
Paint a portrait of your ideal customer right down to the dinkiest detail. The more specific you get, the more you will know her (or him). The better you know her, the better you can speak her language.
The better you can speak her language the more she will take notice. And when you’ve got her attention... don’t squander it! Don’t waste her time or otherwise insult her with irrelevant information or shameless pitching of your “deal”.
Deliver your message in a way that she has not seen before. Find a way to resonate with this person in your market or niche. Be helpful and deliver value consistently over time. Learning exactly who you’re ideal customer is and carefully cultivating the relationship you have with her, is the foundation to your success. It is the key to all your marketing efforts.

Great article about dishing up “souper-focused” meals for the ideal client. So much meat inside this article I can hardly digest it in one sitting. Guess I’ll return in the morning for seconds. Thanks Eryn.
